It might be a little premature to say it, but this week it has felt as though Spring has come to Sydney. The skies are a brilliant blue, the sun feels warm on the skin and the magnificent magnolias are in bloom. I absolutely love Spring in Sydney. It’s my favourite season of the year. There’s nothing quite like the warmth of Spring sunshine on the back of your legs as you walk on by.

With the return of warm days, my thoughts turn to my Spring wardrobe. Just what will I unearth from my closet for sunny days? I recently came across a distinctive and delicate sixties wedding gown, complete with raised blooms, that would work a treat for a party. It’s not bridal in an obvious way, being a pale antique cream, rather than white. You can see a close-up of the lovely fabric below.

 

 

I’ve also recently found a sixties frock with an unusual hydrangea bloom print, which will work beautifully this coming season. It’s casual and comfortable to wear, and it’s very unlikely that I’ll bump into another girl wearing the same dress in Sydney. This is one of the great advantages of vintage finds: they’re highly likely to be one-offs in your neighbourhood. You won’t come across someone in the same outfit and you’ll be graciously accepting compliments for your individual style.

 

 

A favourite outfit that will come out of the closet is my fifties floral ‘Marilyn’ dress, so called because it has a neck- and waistline that conjure up images of Marilyn Monroe. It works wonderfully with a pale cream jacket with soutache collar, just perfect for a Spring wedding or garden party.

 

 

But it’s not all about florals and patterns this spring. A jaunty pink sixties blouse with a fabulous flouncy collar is bound to get an airing over the next few months. It’s certainly an outfit that will put a smile on the wearer’s face.

 

 

What will be occupying me this Spring? I’ll be frequenting pilates, yoga and barre classes at my new gym and am looking forward to experiencing the tranquillity and bliss of a cocoon meditation class. I’ll also be learning the art of making resin jewellery with a girlfriend at a weekend workshop in September. And needless to say, I’ll be keeping my eyes open for more unique and glamorous vintage finds at fairs and markets around my city and working on creating lots of new and original content for my blog. I’ll also be taking numerous walks around Sydney photographing Spring blooms and searching for the most glorious gardens along the way.
